During the golden hours, when the sun is low or just below the horizon, the pure white light of the sun travels through the thickest part of the atmosphere, scattering all the short wavelength colors of blue, indigo and green. Thus, leaving only the fiery tones of orange, red and purple to joyfully greet our eyes, or my lens.
